The POPENVIROS project was represented at the 5th ISI Regional Statistical Conference (3-5 June, Malta), where an invited paper session titled “Environment and gender population dynamics: What is the nexus on global and regional level?” was organised by Milica Maričić, a member of the POPENVIROS team. Her initiative and coordination were essential for shaping the session and bringing together researchers working at the intersection of environmental and demographic studies.

The session featured three complementary papers addressing environmental influences on population dynamics across different spatial scales:

  • Prof. Blagica Novkovska and Prof. Ksenija Dumičić presented a European‑level study, “Analyzing total fertility rate impacted by selected environmental, demographic, and economic development indicators: Hierarchical cluster analysis for selected European countries.”
  • Marina Ignjatović (maiden Dobrota) and Luna Radević contributed a study on composite indicators of immigration and their relationship with other socio‑economic and environmental composite indicators.
  • Milica Maričić, together with Natalija Mirić, Principal Investigator of POPENVIROS, presented a national‑level study focusing on the Vojvodina region, examining how environmental and social factors shape rural migration patterns.

A special acknowledgment goes to Prof. Ksenija Dumičić for providing the discussion, concluding remarks, and valuable inspiration for further research on the nexus between population dynamics and environmental factors.

We are pleased to have contributed to the work of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and ISI Events, strengthening the visibility and scientific impact of the POPENVIROS project in both regional and international contexts. 🌍
