We are pleased to announce the publication of the first article from the thematic issue of the journal Stanovništvo dedicated to the POPENVIROS project.
📄 “Do Drought and Agricultural Factors Influence Migration in Serbia? Insights from a Segmentation Study” Authors: Milica Maričić, Petar Vasić, Tijana Jakovljević, Miloš Milovanović
The paper examines how districts in Serbia can be segmented according to drought and agro‑ecological characteristics, and whether these segments differ in their internal emigration rates. An advanced biclustering approach was applied, covering three reference years — 2002, 2011, and 2022.
🔍 Key findings include:
▫️ an increase in drought parameters over the 20‑year period,
▫️ both stable and divergent patterns across districts,
▫️ five consistently identified segments,
▫️ no statistically significant differences in emigration rates between segments.
