We are pleased to announce the publication of a new research article in Stanovništvo, offering an important contribution to understanding local natural hazard exposure and demographic vulnerability in Serbia.
Author: Ivan Novković
The study integrates GIS, Triangular Fuzzy AHP, and Fuzzy MULTIMOORA to evaluate the combined vulnerability of 25 Serbian local self‑government units (LSGUs). Fifteen indicators were grouped into three dimensions: natural hazard exposure, hazard exposure within built‑up areas, and demographic vulnerability.
🔍 Key findings highlight:
▫️ Ljubovija, Vladičin Han, and Krupanj as the most vulnerable LSGUs in the integrated assessment;
▫️ Lebane, Gadžin Han, and Vladimirci ranked lowest in overall vulnerability;
▫️ municipalities with the highest demographic vulnerability are not necessarily those with the highest integrated vulnerability — underscoring the importance of interactions between hazard exposure and demographic structure;
▫️ group‑specific Fuzzy MULTIMOORA analyses identify primary drivers of vulnerability, including ageing populations, disability prevalence, and economic inactivity;
▫️ the proposed approach supports evidence‑based disaster risk reduction, spatial planning, and local resilience‑building.
