📘 Thematic Block: Population Dynamics and Environmental Challenges
👤 Guest Editor: Natalija Mirić, University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography
Environmental challenges are reshaping population dynamics across the globe. Climate change, natural hazards, and ecological pressures increasingly influence fertility, mortality, migration, settlement patterns, and overall demographic stability. At the same time, extreme weather events — from floods and landslides to droughts and forest fires — are intensifying risks for communities, affecting land use, agriculture, livelihoods, health, and well‑being.
To deepen the understanding of the environment–population nexus, the scientific journal Stanovništvo invites authors to submit papers for a special thematic block dedicated to exploring how environmental challenges shape demographic processes, social systems, and policy responses.
📝 We welcome contributions in the following areas:
• Demographic perspectives: climate change impacts on fertility, mortality, migration, and population structure
• Social dimensions: environmental risk awareness, population health under ecological stress, vulnerable groups
• Legal frameworks: protection from natural hazards, social and pension systems in the context of environmental change
• Policy recommendations: sustainable population management, labor market adaptability, public health, and well‑being
📅 Submission deadline: May 25, 2026
🌐 Languages: Serbian or English
📨 Submission: via the Stanovništvo journal online platform
🔎 All papers will undergo standard peer review.
If your research intersects population studies and environmental challenges, we warmly encourage you to contribute to this thematic block and join the discussion on one of the most pressing issues of our time.
