The regional workshop Addressing the interlinkages between climate change, human mobility and security to strengthen resilience in South-Eastern Europe was held on June 3, 2025 at Sarajevo.

Organized by the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OSCE-OCEEA) in partnership with the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the OSCE Field Operations in South-Eastern Europe, the workshop has convened relevant ministerial bodies, regional stakeholders, civil society organizations, and academia.

This event was part of the activity Strengthening the evidence-based understanding of the climate change, human mobility and security nexus in South Eastern Europe, coordinated by the OSCE-OCEEA in co-operation with adelphi and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

The regional multi-stakeholder workshop aimed to validate and discuss the empirical research carried out by the implementing partners. It provides a platform to share experiences and lessons learned.

Across the different panels, the workshop addressed key interconnected themes, including:

  • Enhancing evidence on whether and how environmental and climate impacts interact with
    human mobility patterns, and exacerbate human insecurity in SEE;
  • Identifying key governance challenges in linking climate response and mobility management;
  • Sharing good practices in regional cooperation to strengthen resilience and preparedness of
    the institutions.

Principal Investigator Natalija Mirić had the opportunity to present the POPENVIROS project at the workshop.
